GPV Vehicle System


Using collective long term background and experience, GPV has designed and developed a state-of-the-art modular new system of vehicle platforms, called a General Purpose Vehicle (GPV), which can be best described as a new type of vehicle called a NATIONAL SECURITY AND DEFENSE VEHICLE system. These vehicle platforms are configured from four to ten wheels (4X4X4, 6X6X6, 8X8X8, 8 X 8 X 8, 10X10X10, and 8X8X8 Truck) and share 95%+ cross platform part commonality with high quality commercial-off-the-shelf components for a reduced logistics footprint. The vehicle weights range from 14 to 21 tons and are capable of carrying payloads of up to an additional 20+ tons for the same weight vehicle.

These common core vehicle platforms all share the same high mobility and unique features listed below:

· 2 to 6 person advanced forward cockpit crew station with 7 – 11 large periscopes with 2 large flat panel displays for 4 thermal cameras, 4 optical cameras, GPS, manuals, etc. (large windshield for the truck)

· Large crew / cargo compartment area to rear (both cockpit and crew area are heated, air conditioned, and NBC over pressure protected)

· Variable left or right hand drive steering at any speed for front two side by side seating (also center drive steering for truck)

· All-wheel steer (using a very unique GPV design which allows for a very tight turning radius, full Ackermann steering, and minimal tire hull intrusion). The GPV 4X4X4 Sentry at 11.6m and GPV 6X6X6 Commander at 12.8m have a significantly smaller turning circle than a U.S. Military HMMWV at 15.4m. The GPV 8X8X8 Captain can turn in virtually the same circle as the HMMWV.

· Full-time, all-wheel drive with a unique GPV driveline design

· Multi-Circuit anti-lock braking system        

· 2 channel active central tire inflation     

· 60% fore and aft grade capability

· 30 – 50% side slope capability

· 520 mm (20.5”) of wheel travel giving improved cross-country speeds and ride quality (using a very unique GPV designed lightweight, electronically controlled, variable height [side-to-side, fore-and-aft controlled], semi-active independent, pneumatic suspension)

· Minimal thermal signature (inboard disk brakes, no geared hubs at wheel-ends, and mixing hot engine exhaust with engine cooling air)

· Highly common platform architecture supporting all variants with electronic bus systems, self-diagnostics, and prognostics to enhance the vehicle platform system interoperability

· Integral, self-recovery winch with 7 to 15 ton pound single line pull capacity, 15 to 30 ton with the snatch block provided

· Onboard auxiliary power unit (APU) for air-conditioning, heating, and power generation

· 567+ liters (150 Gallons) of diesel fuel providing an approximate range of 1,690 km (1,050 miles) (highway)

· Multiple tire sizes (395/85R20 through 16.00R20)

· Large ramps or swinging doors at rear, and side doors on both sides of  vehicles

This system of vehicle platforms is powered with a common, completely interchangeable diesel engine and transmission "powerpack", which can easily be removed by two technicians in less than ten minutes using only one hand tool and a lifting device offering "pit stop" maintenance.  This unique powerpack system can be replaced by a low risk single motor or dual motor electric hybrid drive system with only minor modifications to the vehicle, which is typical of the technology insertion provided for in this GPV design.

The attributes specified above are more technologically advanced than any existing vehicles and allow these new GPV platforms to operate more effectively in both urban and extreme off-road theaters. These vehicle platforms are fully amphibious (high fording for truck), provide both heated and air conditioned NBC protection, some are capable of crossing trenches up to 3 meters, all are capable of being C-130 air transportable, and offer superior maneuverability for transportation within aircraft and maritime vessel well decks. Also, they can easily be operated robotically with only two very minor modifications.  The vehicle's are equipped with an advanced crew station providing exceptional direct vision, as well as large flat-panel displays providing thermal vision, optical vision, GPS, movement tracking systems, service manual and service records viewing and inputting. Enhanced situational awareness is a hallmark design trait of the GPV platform system.

General Purpose Vehicles' personnel have wide-ranging long term experience and technical expertise in vehicle platform design, weapon station design, and their related development, fielding and logistic support which has been instrumental in the development in this new system.  This combined ability and knowledge coupled to the new GPV vehicle platform system of systems (driveline, suspension, steering, hulls, optics, electronics, sensors, HVAC, NBC, mission kits, etc.) development will have direct benefit to many users for multiple tasks from one single first complete system. This new system of vehicle platforms with all of their extended versatility offer the ability to carry large numbers of personnel, heavy equipment and necessary cargo, for whatever tasks they may be asked to perform individually or collectively.
